FAQ - HORROR HAVEN FILM EXPO
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of films do you accept?
We accept horror films of all kinds including psychological, supernatural, experimental, creature, thriller hybrids, found footage, and dark genre-benders. Narrative features, shorts, trailers, and horror screenplays are welcome.
Do you judge films based on budget?
No. We judge films solely on vision, creativity, atmosphere, and overall impact. Budget, gear, and industry access never influence your score.
Do you allow AI-generated films?
We do not accept fully AI-generated films. Projects may use AI as a small tool (post, cleanup, concept art, etc.), but the creative core must come from human filmmakers.
If selected, will my film screen at the live event?
Yes. All selected films are screened at the live annual Horror Haven showcase unless the filmmaker requests otherwise.
Where is the live event held?
Location will be announced in 2026. Details will be shared across our website and social platforms.
Do you offer feedback?
Yes. Every film is reviewed by our judging team, and we provide constructive feedback upon request so filmmakers can grow their projects beyond the festival.
Can I submit a film that premiered elsewhere?
Yes. We accept films that have played at other festivals, screened online, or have limited distribution.
Do you accept works-in-progress?
Yes, but they must be 90 percent complete. Rough cuts should still have clear sound, temp score, and a locked storyline.
Do you accept older films?
Films must be completed on or after January 1, 2022.
Can I submit more than one film?
Absolutely. Each submission requires its own entry.
Do Official Selections receive laurels?
Yes. All Official Selections receive laurels, website placement, and social media announcements.
If I win a screenplay category, will my script be performed or produced?
Winners receive laurels, digital promotion, and festival recognition. Production opportunities are not guaranteed.
How will I be notified if my film is selected or wins an award?
Notifications are sent through FilmFreeway and email. Winners are also publicly announced on the website and our social platforms.
